Our History
Escape from Reality operates as a family friendly entertainment center in Elkhart County, Indiana.
– We began offering escape game fun with one game in the Down Under level of the Old Bag Factory. The game was called Fright at the Museum and was about a museum curator who dabbled in dark magic. It was considered a generation 1 room with mostly locks, and very little technology.
– We introduced our second game, Hailstorm (about a weather device), and the area’s only seasonal games for Halloween and Christmas in addition to our originally designed year round games. Building on our growing knowledge, Hailstorm had many technological puzzles and was considered a Gen2 room. The seasonal games were temporary with many locks, but became a crowd favorite.
– We opened our most popular game yet, Beam Me Up, in which 90% of the puzzles were technology-based. While players did not need to techy, this game offered a challenge to surpass the games that preceded it. We also gave the seasonal games their own space to be modified from season to season.
- We replaced Fright at the Museum with Legend of Bagg Island, a pirate ship adventure inspired by the hit TV show, The Curse of Oak Island. This was our first dark game where players needed to carry a flashlight or use their phones to do puzzles in the game. The magic of the ship and cursed objects were cleverly disguised tech props.
– Sadly, we had to move out of the Old Bag Factory at the end of the year, a year before we were ready to. This was a huge blow and we were not yet in a position to get another location so fast. We put all our stuff in storage and re-grouped. We wanted to continue to offer games to the public, but had to think of another way.
– Enter Outdoor Adventures. we wanted to continue to provide affordable, family-friendly fun to all in Elkhart County. Originally designed adventures to take place on an app while walking around a designated area was a challenge for us. we partnered with the Goshen Historical Society Museum to offer a game one day a month. Embedding the known history of the downtown merchants, Main Street Mysteries was born.
– We were so excited to re-open in a perfect location at Peddlers Village. It was a ton of space to work with and we started with our newest game, Bigfoot Is Real. This unique theme drew in many new players. While were finishing the install of the pirate ship game at the new location and creating the puzzles quests for Halloween and Christmas, tragedy struck. The tool man and muscle for us had a heart attack and needed a triple bypass. This devastating news was followed by the sale of the building and a request to move out. SO back to storage we go.
– We are proud to become part of the new nonprofit organization, Think Outside the Box, Inc. All games and offerings are being built and priced to serve families, youth and school groups, and work groups.
